In the past, nettle fabric was indeed made from the fibres of the stinging nettle. Today the fabric is mainly made of cotton, but has kept its original name. Nettle or nettle cloth is often used as stage fabric. For this purpose the fabric is impregnated to make it flame-retardant and is B1-certified according to DIN 4102. In addition to its use as canvas or theatre horizon, nettle fabric is also used to make clothing. Cotton nettle is hard-wearing and quite easy to care for. As a rule, this fabric can be washed at approx. 40 °C in a normal or gentle wash cycle.
